E-TEXTILE SPRING BREAK
Experimenting with craft & technology during a week-long collective residency in Wassaic, NY
In April 2019 I joined a group of artists, designers and practitioners in e-textiles for a week-long residency where we experimented with different materials, techniques and technologies, culminating with an exhibition in the art space in Wassaic, NY.
Each participant brought one or more artifacts representative of their personal or professional practice in e-textiles to present to the group.
The majority were either University educators and artists/designers from multidisciplinary fields, a group of talents from the UK, France, Taiwan, Italy, Greece, Spain and various parts of the USA.
We had workshops like “Sensing your Sensor Data”, held by Liza Stark, “Biomaterials” held by Anastasia Pistofidou and Giulia Tomasello, “Shaping Techniques” by Shanel Wu, Pattern Making by Sophie Skach, etc..
We also enjoyed social time and communal meals with culinary experimentations, like the Chinese dumpling making workshop.
On the final day, April 7 2019, we exhibited the work created during the workshop as well as the projects brought from back home to the public, invited to The Wassaic Project for the occasion.
I exhibited two pieces, “Yucatecan Electric”, made in Mexico in 2018 with the Mayan artisans and Theda, and “Sorcières”, created as a duo project with Alice Giordani, programmer and wearable technology expert from Paris, France.
More information on the projects and the event can be found on the eTextile Spring Break website.
it was inspiring and truly transformative to be around so many high quality creative talents experts in the field of e-textiles.
